Protect Your Hearing through Healthy Living

Hearing loss is a natural part of aging, but it’s not inevitable. Follow the healthy habits below to decrease your risk of developing hearing loss.

Stay Active

Cardiovascular exercise that elevates your heart rate for about 30 minutes a day increases blood flow throughout your body resulting in positive effects on both the peripheral and central auditory systems.

Stay Healthy

People who take in more antioxidant vitamins and minerals like beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and magnesium also have a lower risk of hearing loss because of improved blood flow to the inner ear. And high levels of omega-3 fatty acids found in fish can increase blood flow to the inner ear as well.

Control Diabetes

Hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes as it is in those who don't have the disease. However, a study from the Henry Ford hospital showed that women aged 60-75 who controlled their diabetes maintained similar hearing ability to non-diabetic women in the same age group.

Take Care of Your Hearing

If you need hearing aids, Brand New Day has provided you with a valuable benefit through TruHearing that reduces your out-of-pocket cost on hearing aids to copayments of $149 to $999, depending on your plan and which model is selected. Hearing Aid benefits vary by the benefit plan you are enrolled in. Please review your evidence of coverage.

To get started, you must call TruHearing customer service first to schedule an appointment with a TruHearing provider near you. After an evaluation is completed, the TruHearing provider will let you know your available options for selection of Hearing Aids including copayment amounts.

If you wish to understand what your copayments are before you visit a TruHearing provider, you can see your Evidence of Coverage or call TruHearing customer service line.
