Why is it important to get vaccinations?
Vaccines help protect you from serious infectious disease throughout your life, from infancy to adulthood. Vaccinations help eliminate diseases.
Are vaccinations safe?
Vaccines are safe and effective. Since vaccines are given to millions of healthy people to prevent serious diseases, they are held to very high safety standards. Every licensed and recommended vaccine goes through years of safety testing, including:
- Testing and evaluation of the vaccine before it is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended for use by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Monitoring the vaccine’s safety after it is recommended for infants, children, or adults
The government tests every vaccine before approving it for use. They monitor its safety as long as the vaccine is in use.
How do I know when vaccinations are needed?
Immunization schedules are available for children, adolescents, and adults to help determine what vaccines are needed based on age.
