The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. 988 is the new three-digit number to use if you or someone you know is thinking about suicide. People can call, text or chat by dialing 988 or going to 988lifeline.org.
If you or someone you know is at risk for suicide, there’s a new, easier way to get help.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. 988 is the new three-digit number to use if you or someone you know is thinking about suicide. People can call, text or chat by dialing 988 or going to
988lifeline.org. They’ll be connected right away with a trained counselor from the Lifeline network.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always be available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
What can you do if someone is at risk?
Have an honest, private conversation
If a person says they are considering suicide:
