Am I Eligible?

The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) is the name of Arizona’s Medicaid agency. AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) is Arizona’s integrated Medicaid program that combines physical and behavioral health services to give you comprehensive care at one place. Before you apply for ACC benefits, review the basic AHCCCS eligibility requirements first to see if you qualify.

AHCCCS basic eligibility requirements

There are basic requirements to qualify for AHCCCS depending on which category you belong to:

    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Age 19 to 64
    • Does not qualify for Medicare
    • Is not pregnant
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • When the individual is the primary caretaker of a child, the child must have insurance coverage
    • Is under the income limit
    • Is not eligible for any other group
    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (If the person is not a U.S citizen or qualified immigrant, they may still be eligible for emergency services.)
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Cooperates with the Division of Child Support Services if needed
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • Has family income under the income limits
    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (If the person is not a U.S citizen or qualified immigrant, they may still be eligible for emergency services.)
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Is under income limit
    • Under age 21; and
    • Have a qualifying CRS medical condition.
      • The medical condition must:
        • Require active treatment; and
        • Be found by AHCCCS DMPS to meet criteria as specified in R9-22-1301-1305.
    • Is an Arizona Resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (if the person is not a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, they may still be eligible for emergency services.)
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions and Social Security
    • Is under the income limit
    • Is an Arizona Resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (if the person is not a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, they may still be eligible for emergency services.)
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • Receives Social Security disability or is determined blind or disabled by the Disability Determination Services Administration (DDSA)
    • Is under the income limit
    • AHCCCS offers services for individuals who require the level of care provided in an Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID). These services are offered through the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). This program is intended for individuals of any age who are determined to need ongoing services at that institutional level.
    • AHCCCS offers services for individuals who require the level of care provided in an Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID). This program is intended for individuals of any age who are determined to need ongoing services at that institutional level
    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Is entitled to Medicare Part A
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • Is under the income limit
    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Is pregnant
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant (If the person is not a U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant, they may still be eligible for emergency services.)
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Cooperates with the Division of Child Support Services if needed
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • Is under the income limit
    • A woman who has been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer or pre-cancerous cervical lesions through one of these screening processes may qualify for AHCCCS BCCTP:
      • Arizona Department of Health Services - Well Women HealthCheck Program
      • Hopi Women's Health Program
      • Navajo Nation Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention Program
      • Arizona licensed provider recognized by the Well Woman HealthCheck (on or after 8/2/2012).

    There is no Medicaid eligibility income limit established for BCCTP. The requirement is to be screened under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program, which has an income limit of 250% FPL.

    Working Individuals With a Disability (Freedom to Work)

    • Is age 16 - 65
    • Is an Arizona resident
    • Is a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant
    • Is working and paying taxes
    • Has a Social Security number or applies for one
    • Applies for potential income that may be available, such as unemployment, pensions, and Social Security
    • Receives Social Security disability or is determined blind or disabled by the Disability Determination Services Administration (DDSA)
    • Is not eligible for any other AHCCCS program
    • Has countable monthly earned income (after allowable deductions) under $2,530.00 per month (only about half of your earnings will be used as your monthly countable income). AHCCCS does not count income of your family members nor unearned income such as Social Security. Assets are not counted when determining eligibility.
